MORVEN in SUMMER: a two-week intensive

ENVIRONMENTAL THOUGHT and PRACTICE (ETP) / UVA SUSTAINABILITY LAB

Join the exciting emerging field of Sound & Sustainability and learn how sound is advancing our understanding of sustainable human/nature futures. This experiential two-week course offers students a a vast outdoor lab equipped with advanced field recording and sensing equipment. In this introductory course, students will learn how creative approaches to sound are advancing research in health and personal wellbeing, environmental conservation, energy production, social stability, aesthetics, and engineering technologies. 

 

Morven in Summer is an innovative sustainability-focused teaching, research, and engagement program for undergraduate and graduate students hosted on Morven’s 3,000 acres, a key landscape for multidisciplinary learning at the University of Virginia. 

 

Students with interests in sustainability, creative arts, technology and environmental science research will have the opportunity to escape the traditional confines of the classroom while earning credit for working on projects with real-world applications. Sound and Sustainability is applicable in many areas of study including the arts and music, the sciences, humanities, and engineering.
